Illuminame
My Arduino based rainbow LED edge lit touch sensitive name tag.
Why?
Well I’ve been volunteering at the Champaign Urbana Community Fab Lab where they have tradition of having their volunteers design their own name tags. So when it came time to make my own I decided to go all in on making my own that would be adorable, touchable and hackable. What I ended up with was a Trinket Arduino based nametag that let’s you fully control 4 RGB leds and has one heart shaped touch sensor pad for creating an interactive experience. The first program I wrote for it makes it slowly cycles through a rainbow of colors then when the heart is touched it jumps in to disco party mode!
How To:
Step by step guide to how I made this.
Step 1: Designing the front plate
The CUC Fab Lab has a laser cutter that can both cut and etch acrylic so all I needed to design was a simple vector graphic file for the face plate. I knew the electronics and magnetic name tag connector would require about 2″ x 2″ so I used that as a guide for the size of plate.
